Ride prices follow a cost-sharing limit based on the IRS standard mileage rate, so a seat can never cost more than its share of the trip.
- The limit is the mileage rate × trip distance ÷ seats offered
- You see the total, including fee and tax, before you book
- The driver receives the full ride price, with no deduction
- Cancel before the ride and your payment returns to your wallet

Questions, answered
Is ShareSpace a taxi or ride-hailing service?
No. ShareSpace is a carpool app for sharing the cost of a trip someone is already making. Prices are capped to a cost-sharing limit, so drivers cannot run it as a fare business.
How are ride prices set?
The driver sets a price per seat, but it can never be above the cost-sharing limit: the standard IRS mileage rate multiplied by the trip distance and divided by the number of seats offered. The app shows the limit while the driver sets the price.
What do I pay as a passenger?
The ride price for your seat or seats, plus a small service fee (10% of the ride price) and any tax on that fee. You see the full breakdown and the total before you confirm a booking.
How does the driver get paid?
The driver receives the full ride price in their in-app wallet and can request a withdrawal. Nothing is taken out of the driver's share.
Which payment methods can I use?
Your in-app wallet, a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, all processed securely by Stripe. You can also pay the driver in cash, in which case only the service fee is paid in the app.
What happens if I cancel a booking?
If you cancel before the ride starts, everything you paid goes back to your wallet and can be used on another ride.
How does ShareSpace help keep me safe?
Members are verified, each ride has a start code that confirms you are getting into the right car, you can chat in the app without sharing your phone number, and you can rate every ride.
Is the app free?
Yes, ShareSpace is free to download on the App Store and Google Play. You only pay when you book a seat.
