Riley AI Carpool Assistant: What to Ask and How It Helps

Meet Riley, the AI assistant in ShareSpace Carpool: example prompts for finding rides, publishing your commute and checking your wallet, plus its limits.

A person talking to their phone in the morning

Planning a ride usually means tapping through several screens and typing in addresses and times. Riley, the AI assistant inside ShareSpace Carpool, offers a shorter path. You tell Riley what you need in everyday language, and Riley helps you find matching rides or publish your own. This guide covers what Riley is good for, example things to ask, how to get clearer answers, and the limits you should keep in mind. Riley is an assistant that saves you effort, not a promise that a perfect ride exists.

What Riley is and where to find it

Riley is the AI assistant built into the app. To use it, tap Riley AI on the Home screen. You can type your request or tap one of the suggested prompts. Riley is meant for people who would rather describe a trip than fill in every field by hand, though the regular search and offer screens remain available whenever you prefer them.

Riley works with the same rides and rules as the rest of the app. It does not create a separate set of rides or special prices. It helps you reach the same features faster.

What you can ask Riley

The app suggests starter prompts such as I need a ride to work tomorrow, Find rides near me and Show my wallet balance. Beyond those, the main jobs Riley helps with fall into a few groups.

  • Finding rides. Tell Riley where you are going and when, and it looks for matching rides.
  • Publishing rides. If you drive, Riley can help you publish a ride, including your regular commute.
  • Checking your wallet. You can ask Riley to show your wallet balance without leaving the conversation.

Example requests that work well

Clear requests tend to get clear results. Here are a few ways to phrase common needs:

  • I need a ride to work tomorrow morning.
  • Find rides near me.
  • I'm driving to the office tomorrow at 8, help me publish a ride.
  • Set up my regular commute so it is published for me.
  • Show my wallet balance.

Notice the pattern: each one says what you want and gives the key details, such as where and when. If you leave out the destination or the time, Riley may need to ask a follow-up question, or the results may be broader than you want.

You confirm before anything happens

This is the most important thing to know about Riley. The assistant finds and prepares, but you stay in charge. You confirm before anything is booked or published. That means a typo in your request does not quietly turn into a booking. Take a moment to read the details Riley shows you, including the route, time and price, before you confirm. If something looks wrong, say so and adjust, or switch to the regular screens.

For drivers, Riley can also help with a recurring commute, which pairs well with the daily ride feature described in our post on auto-publish daily rides.

Tips for getting better answers

  1. Include both ends of the trip. Mention where you are starting and where you are headed, not only the destination.
  2. Say when. A day and a time, such as tomorrow at 8, narrows the search.
  3. Add seats if it matters. If more than one person is traveling, say so, so that the results fit your group.
  4. Follow up instead of starting over. If the first results are not quite right, adjust your request, for example by asking for a different time.
  5. Review the total before confirming. The price you pay is shown before you confirm. If you want a refresher on what the total includes, read how to pay for a carpool ride.

When Riley is most useful

Riley tends to shine in situations where typing a sentence is faster than tapping through screens. If you are on the go and need a ride tomorrow, a one-line request can get you to results quickly. If you are a driver who wants to publish your commute without filling in each field, describing it to Riley may be less work. If you simply want a quick answer, such as your wallet balance, asking is quicker than navigating to another screen.

On the other hand, if you want to compare many rides side by side and sort them by earliest, cheapest or closest, the regular search screen with its sort chips may suit you better. Many people use both, depending on the day. There is no wrong choice, and trying each approach on a few trips is the best way to learn which you prefer.

A good habit is to treat Riley like a helpful colleague who takes notes quickly. You give clear instructions, you check the notes, and you correct anything that is off. That small review step keeps the speed benefit without the risk of surprises.

What Riley can't do

It helps to have realistic expectations. Riley is an AI assistant, and AI assistants can misunderstand a request. A few limits are worth remembering.

  • It cannot create rides that do not exist. If no driver is offering a ride that matches your trip, Riley cannot make one appear. In that case you can request a ride or try different times.
  • It may misread an unclear request. That is one reason confirmation matters. Check the details each time.
  • It does not replace your own judgment. Before you ride, look at the driver's rating and verified badge, and use the start code at pickup. The carpool safety checklist covers more habits worth keeping.

Frequently asked questions

Will Riley book a ride without asking me?

No. You confirm before anything is booked or published, so you have a chance to review the details first.

Do I have to use Riley?

No. Riley is an optional shortcut. You can search for rides and offer rides using the regular screens on the Home page at any time.

What if Riley doesn't understand my request?

Try rephrasing with the pickup, drop-off and time spelled out, or tap one of the suggested prompts. If it still does not work, the regular search screen remains available.

The easiest way to see whether Riley fits your routine is to try it with a real trip. Download ShareSpace Carpool, open Riley AI on the Home screen and ask for a ride you need this week.
